PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of an incident near US 41 and Harbor Boulevard in which a crane fell on a power line, knocking out power to many traffic lights along the U.S. 41 corridor.

No injuries have been reported, but the power outage has affected several businesses along U.S. 41 and the paralleling access roads. Outages may extend from the Murdock area down into the Charlotte Harbor area. Some residences in the area may also be affected.

Traffic on southbound U.S. 41 is being detoured at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard to Edgewater Boulevard.

At this point northbound U.S. 41 is not affected and is open.

The sheriff's office is asking drivers to avoid the area if possible and take alternative routes.
