SARASOTA, FL. - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Sarasota man for sexual battery on a child.

Arrested was 70-year-old Jerald Gene Williams.

In 1989, Williams was convicted of sexually assaulting a child from the time she was 3 until she was 6-years-old. He was sentenced to community control, but was not prohibited from contact with the victim, and the abuse continued for years.

The victim, now an adult, recently contacted detectives and reported that Williams sexually assaulted her until she reached the age of 14.

Detectives monitored a recent conversation between the victim and Williams, during which time he made tacit admissions without denial as the victim described the history of the sexual assaults.

Williams was taken into custody and confessed to his crimes. He is currently being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
