PALMETTO, Fla. - A ground-breaking ceremony for the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park was held Monday in Palmetto.

The city's Community Redevelopment Agency hosted the ceremony. The walking park will be built in the Palmetto Ward One community on 17th Street West.

Eventually, the overgrown piece of property will include a lake with a fountain, a pavilion and walking trails. "One of the things that we all try to do is get outdoors more, and this is going to be a facility that's going to entice people and do just that -- to jog, to walk, even ride their bikes through. It will be a nice addition to the community," says Palmetto mayor Shirley Groover Bryant.

Construction on the park is expected to be done by August of 2014.
