ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- A proposed ferry shuttling system in Englewood is meeting some resistance from Sarasota County commissioners.

At Tuesday's commission meeting, commissioners questioned how successful a private ferry would be. They worry it wouldn't be cost effective for the county.

The proposed ferry would travel between Manasota Key and Dearborn Street.

Supporters of the project say a similar ferry system in Venice has been successful.

A subcommittee is continuing to look into the ferry proposal.

When I first heard of this ferry proposal, I thought what a fantastic idea! It would be just what is needed to breathe more life into Dearborn Street. People could come, park, dine, shop and ferry to the beach. What a super fun day that would be.
It would seriously increase the tax base coming out of Englewood with all of the new businesses that would be interested in opening on Dearborn Street. Why on earth is this not seen as a win/win?!
Certainly hope that the subcommittee sees this project as a GOOD thing!

Sarasota county has some major mental issues. Stupid and pointless.
