SARASOTA - A controversial plan for a Walmart in Sarasota comes before commissioners tonight.

The appeal and public hearing for the new store planned at the Ringling Shopping Center on Lime Avenue is the last thing on Tuesday night's agenda. It will be held at Sarasota city hall.

The store was approved by city commissioners but an appeal was filed by some nearby residents.

Businesses quickly vacated the shopping center after Publix shut down. The grocery had been there since 1955.
