City of Venice mourns loss of longtime business leader

VENICE, Fla. -- Members of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce are mourning the sudden loss of their President & CEO John Ryan, who passed away from a heart attack Saturday morning, according to Chairman of the Board Evan Duke.

In an email, Duke told fellow chamber members, "It is with deep regret that I am emailing you today to let you know of the sudden passing of our President and CEO John Ryan."

"As I am told, he suffered from a heart attack early on Saturday morning and passed very quickly."

In June, Ryan celebrated 20 years at the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce. He started as the sales director, and quickly rose to the rank of CEO.

Ryan is survived by his wife, daughter, and grandson.

In a statement, Venice mayor John Holic said Ryan was "a good friend, a community leader, and his loss will be felt by many."

In his email, Duke said he would be in touch with chamber members with the details of Ryan's funeral arrangements.
