SARASOTA, Fla. -- Last night, Sarasota city commissioners were slated to discuss why the Police Department pulled its application for state accreditation.

However, before Chief Bernadette Dipino got the chance, Vice Mayor Susan Chapman made a motion to refer the issue to an independent police advisory panel.

Last week, Dipino decided to withdraw from the accreditation process after finding the department was not in compliance with numerous standards.
