SARASOTA, Fla. -- Four Ft. Lauderdale men were arrested on I-75 Wednesday after investigators say they tried to break into a Sarasota home with children inside.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says the men were trying to break into a home in The Enclave subdivision on Palmer Boulevard.

The mother told investigators that she left the house Wednesday morning to take her 16-year-old to school, but left behind her three other kids, ages 9-14.  That's when she received a text from one of the children at home that said someone was trying to break in. She told the kids to run out the back slider to a neighbor. When they did the oldest child snapped a picture of the suspects' vehicle in the driveway.

A witness who called 911 saw two men run to the car, which sped off northbound. A description of the vehicle and the tag number was radioed to deputies who located and stopped the car on I-75 at Laurel Road.

Occupants of the vehicle were identified as 22-year-old Trevon Jackson, 19-year old Darian Jones, 24-year-old Marcus Felder and 20-year-old Gary Saulby, Jr. Each suspect told detectives a different story as to why they were in the area.

"One is on felony probation for armed robbery, another is a violent felony offender," said  sheriff's office spokesperson  Wendy Rose.

All four men are charged with one count each of Attempted Residential Burglary. Jackson is also charged with Violation of Probation.

"We've had a pattern of people coming up from South Florida in rental vehicles and trying to commit crimes in this area," Rose said.
