MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Manatee County School District has rejected a $1.1 million land deal, in the midst of its financial troubles.

The Bradenton Herald reports that Forza Education Management out of Clearwater wanted 20 acres of land owned by the school district off Moccasin Wallow Road in Parrish.

Forza wanted to buy the land to build a charter school, but Superintendent Rick Mills says the district will "have to build a school there in the future to serve the expected growth of that area.”

Forza is still interested in the property, and has raised its offer to $1.5 million.
