CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL-A Punta Gorda man, who watched as someone drove away with his work trailer, followed the suspect and detained him until deputies arrived early this morning. That suspect was ultimately arrested and charged with the theft.
The victim told deputies that he was getting ready for work this morning at about 3:15 when he saw someone driving away with his work trailer from his Cleveland area home. The victim got into his vehicle and followed the tail lights of his trailer until it eventually turned onto Argo Road, which is a dead-end street.
The victim watched as a suspect got out of the vehicle pulling his trailer and began to unhitch it along Argo Road. When he yelled at the suspect, the man tried to drive away by continuing down Argo, only to have to turn around to come back. The suspect stopped his vehicle when confronted by the victim.
Deputies arrived in the area shortly thereafter and took Ismael Antonio Torres, 24, of 4735 Cromey Road in North Port, into custody. He was charged with Grand Theft and is being held on a $2,500 bond at the Charlotte County Jail.
