CHARLOTTE Co., FL (WWSB) -- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office will take part in an effort to educate people on the proper use of prescription drugs.
On Saturday, April 29 they will join the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in recognizing "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day." The aim is to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs.
Given the current opioid epidemic that's affected much of the country, this is a particularly important time to raise awareness.
Residents can join the cause, too, by bringing any of their unused prescription medications to any Charlotte County Sheriff's Office facility and dispose of them in marked receptacles. (The CCSO has receptacles in all facilities throughout the year.) The medications will then be destroyed.
Unused medications can be dropped off at these locations during normal business hours (9-5 p.m.), Monday through Friday.
