By proclamation of the Charlotte Board of County Commissioners, November 25th is designated as Michael Wilson Day.
Sgt. Michael "Mike" Wilson was killed August 5th while responding to a domestic dispute in Port Charlotte, Fla. Charlotte County Commissioners passed and adopted the Michael Wilson Day proclamation in October.

COUNTY OF CHARLOTTE
P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Sergeant Mike Wilson loved his family, wife Joanne, his sons Brandon and Tyler and daughter Emily and enjoyed spending his free time boating, fishing and camping. He also loved his job protecting and helping all the citizens of Charlotte County. Mike Wilson always had a desire to work in law enforcement, and he proudly joined the Charlotte County Sheriff's office 21 years ago. During that time he oversaw inmates at the jail, was a school resource officer for his alma mater, Port Charlotte High School, was selected to lead the county's first Street Crimes Unit and was most recently a road patrol supervisor in District 4; and
WHEREAS, On August 5th one of Charlotte County's finest, Sergeant Michael Wilson, age 42, died protecting the citizens of Charlotte County; and
WHEREAS, we share the grief of Mike Wilson's family, friends and co-workers. We also share the great honor and pride they must feel for the valor, dedication and love of serving this county as demonstrated by this fine and decent man who will always be in our grateful memory; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wilson is a fallen hero whose life and service honored all of us, and we wish to honor him now in return.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that November 25, 2013 shall be known in all of Charlotte County as Michael Wilson Day
and all citizens offer their condolences to Sergeant Michael Wilson's family and friends, recognize his many contributions to the community, and commemorate his life.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 22nd day of October, 2013.
