CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Did you know that it is illegal to operate any type of motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

This week, 58-year-old Kenneth Smith learned that drivers cannot operate a lawn tractor on the roadways or in neighbors’ yards while under the influence.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area of Richmond Street and U.S. 41 for a complaint of a lawn tractor driving down the road.  When deputies arrived on scene they made contact with Mr. Smith and through their investigation along with an open container of beer in the cup holder, arrested him for Driving Under the Influence, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Violation of Driver License Restriction and Corruption by threat against Public Servant.
