VENICE, Fla. - Organizers for the Sarasota Chalk Festival have filed an event request with the city of Venice to host this year's festival.
The Venice city council will discuss the request at a commission meeting on Tuesday.
According to the event request, organizers plan to hold the festival from November 10th through the 17th, primarily along West Miami Avenue between Nokomis Avenue and Nassau Street.
They plan to host parking at the airport festival grounds with a shuttle service to area events.
Organizers say that they have received mostly positive responses from businesses on Miami Avenue.
The festival began in 2008 and draws large crowds of spectators to view artworks by international artists as they create their artwork on the pavement of Pineapple Avenue in downtown Sarasota.
Festival founder Denise Kowal told ABC 7 last month that she had always envisioned moving the festival around the county. "We feel being able to move it to a different location gives us an opportunity to explore our creativity differently. We don't want to keep things stagnant. We don't want to keep things to where it's always the same."
