MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators have arrested an in-home caretaker after they say she physically and emotionally abused the 95-year-old man she had been caring for.

68-year-old Joan Franklin was arrested on April 10th and charged with Abuse of Elderly Adult.

According to the Holmes Beach Police Department, Franklin tied the victim to his bed and threatened to "break the bones" if he did not lay still properly or acted up.  The victim says she was very rough with his body when handling him, even pulling his hair to get him to sit up.

Franklin also allegedly failed to transport the victim to the doctor when he had three bone fractures.

Franklin contends that the victim was tied down in order to protect his broken hip.

Franklin had been caring for the victim for two years, and the abuse has been ongoing over long periods of time, according to police.
