PALMETTO, Fl. - A crash claims the life of a woman riding an electric scooter in Palmetto.

The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of U.S. 41 and 23rd Street East.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say 74-year-old Sally Dudley was riding her electric scooter across the highway when the driver of a Mercury Marquis barreled through the intersection and hit her.

Dudley died of her injuries at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.

Troopers cited the driver of the Marquis for failure to use due care to a pedestrian.
