SARASOTA, FL. - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Bradenton business owner who took thousands of dollars from a customer, but never performed the work he was hired to do.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the victim contacted 39-year-old Matthew Nemeth, who owns Atmospheres Kitchen and Bath Artistry on North Washington Boulevard in Sarasota, in December 2012 to renovate her kitchen countertops. After receiving a written estimate the woman signed a contract with the company and gave Nemeth a check for partial payment in the amount of $6,000.

Work never began and after numerous failed attempts to contact Nemeth or to obtain a refund of her $6,000, the victim contacted the sheriff’s office.

Detectives arrested Nemeth on Thursday and charged him with Grand Theft. He was released after posting $20,000 bond.
