Burglars steal from Hall of Famer's Bradenton home

BRADENTON-- Carlton Fisk was known for throwing out baserunners trying to steal, but the catcher could not stop the thieves who stole from his home in Bradenton.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, crooks got away with thousands of dollars worth of silver coins from the Fisk home located in East Bradenton. Fisk and his family are out of town.

"When you look around, there could have been a lot more valuables that could have been taken, including some baseball memorbillia," said Dave Bristown with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, the Fisk's exterminator, Mike McClain of Pest Control by Mike, noticed the home had been burglarized.

"When I came around the backside of the house, I noticed the backdoor was off the hinges," McClain said.

McClain admits he did not know Fisk is a former ballplayer, let along a Hall of Famer.

"I don't follow baseball. I did not know that. This situation is unfortunate. They (Fisk family) are good people and I can't believe this is happening.

Fisk spent 24 years in the majors with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. He is an 11-time All-Star and was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 866-634-Tips.
