SARASOTA, Fla. - An investigation is underway into why a box truck driver drove off the Coon Key Bridge and into Sarasota Bay. The driver was not badly injured.
The one-vehicle accident backed up traffic in both directions from late morning to early evening on Monday.
Police cited the 63-year-old unnamed driver with careless driving.
Upman's Towing used two 50-ton recovery vehicles to remove the box truck from the intracoastal.
The Florida Department of Transportation will examine the damage to the Coon Key Bridge. That same bridge was repaired earlier this year.
The road reopened around 7 p.m.
