Just before 9-p.m. on Wednesday night, Manatee County Deputy Melanie MacNeal was responding in emergency mode to a call. He was going up the US 301 overpass over 1st St when she drove up behind another vehicle.

Deputy MacNeal moved in to the right lane to pass this car and as she was doing so the car began to move in to the right lane as well. The two cars may have come in to contact.

Deputy MacNeal lost control and drove over the shoulder and down the south side embankment. Her vehicle came to rest at the bottom of the hill. The car that cut her off continued southbound on US 301 and couldn’t be located. Deputy MacNeal was transported to a hospital to be checked out.

Maybe her dashcam got the tag number. The other driver may not have necessarily been at fault.
