Lamontea Taylor was at a family cookout when he and his cousins allegedly snuck away, past no swimming signs, and into a rip current that pulled them toward Longboat Pass. Bystanders rescued all but Taylor.

the sad part is that my brother and his dad and friends were there swimming and tlikng with that little boy before all of this happened my bro came home and told me the whole story this is what he told me he said that the little boy lamontea walked up too my cousin and said y arent u in the water and she said something idk what and he says theres no reason too be scared of the water and right after that he cut his foot and fell in the water ! i was crying soo much i feel bad for his family though but my brother and other brother and my cousin were actually making friends with him! i swear this is the holy truth
It's sad that they family didn't think people were doing their best. Friends and I spent hours searching the beach and then by boat to help find the boy. Hats off to the athuorities that were doing everything they could to find him
I'm sorry for the families loss but, for them to say people don't care is ridiculous. Myself and friends scoured the beach across the way from the incident and tried to help from land. there were many other boats that came to the aid of the coast guard and local authorities to try and help with the rescue. It is a sad day in many aspects
This is a tragic story and my heart goes out to the grieving family. However, to say that police aren't doing enough to recover the body is ridiculous. The tides in that area are strong and could have taken that child just about anywhere. Instead of accusing police of not doing enough, how about asking why these small children were allowed to play in the water in such a dangerous area without adult supervision? And why was it up to a stranger to risk his own life to try to save the kids? Why weren't the parents out there watching them and trying to save them instead of being too busy ignoring them? When you have children, you are responsible for their safety. And when you take them to the beach or the lake or even to a swimming pool, you have a responsibility to keep an eye on them. You don't leave it up to other kids to watch them and you certainly don't blame police for not trying hard enough to recover a body after you have shirked your responsibility at the cost of a precious life. Sorry to sound so harsh and yes, accidents do happen, but this one might have been prevented with a little adult supervision. With summer coming fast, parents, please watch your children - especially around water.
