Body found along U.S. 41 in Palmetto

PALMETTO, Fla. -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says a body was found Tuesday evening in Palmetto.

The body was discovered around 5:30 in the area of 5800 U.S. 41 North by two people walking in the area.  The body was beneath an overpass of railroad tracks.

The victim is an unidentified female in her 20s to 30s.  It's not known what happened to the victim and if foul play was involved.  More details are expected following an autopsy.

**UPDATE** The Sheriff's Office has identified the body as 62-year-old Carolyn West of Palmetto. 

Preliminary results of the autopsy show injuries consistent with a fall.
