SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Legislation that would encourage movie and TV production statewide and here on the Suncoast recently cleared a senate committee.

The bill is sponsored by State Senator Nancy Detert of Venice.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune reports that Detert hopes to add $50 million in incentives to bring film crews here. With two of the nation’s top film schools located in Florida – Ringling College of Art & Design, and Florida State University -- it could be a great economic driver for the state and local economy.

Lawmakers praised Detert on the incentive program last week.

There's some opposition to the bill. Some worry about where the money would come from to support it.

ABC 7's Rebecca Vargas will have more on this story tonight on ABC 7 News at 5.
