**UPDATE** The bicyclist, 20-year-old Victor Foreman, later died of his injuries at the hospital.

SARASOTA, Fla. - A bicyclist was critically injured Wednesday after police say they crossed into the path of a van and was hit by it.

It happened shortly before 5pm on 10th Street at Central Avenue in Sarasota.

Police at the scene say the bicyclist, a 22-year-old man, was attempting to cross 10th Street against a red light and rode into the path of the van.

The victim was flown to the hospital for treatment to severe head trauma.

The driver of the van was not charged.

This is the second serious bicyclist accident on the Suncoast Wednesday.  A bicyclist was struck by a hit and run driver in Bradenton early Wednesday morning on U.S. 41.

10:1 the cyclist was some drunk who lost his license. They drive into and in front of these cars on purpose. Instant law suit. So the guy can't drive a car, but we let him drive a vehicle that is a certain lawsuit no matter how minor the hit. I've seen these guys do this on more than one occasion. Drunk on the road is drunk on the road. They shouldn't be permitted to bicycle either.
