SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. - A Chicago man was flown to the hospital for treatment Monday after troopers say a car pulled in front of him on Siesta Key.

The crash happened at 11:48am on Midnight Pass Road at the entrance to Harbor Towers, about a quarter mile south of the split with Beach Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 52-year-old David Varwig of Chicago was bicycling northbound on the sidewalk when the driver of a southbound SUV attempted to turn left into Harbor Towers.

The driver, 66-year-old William Lively of Enon, Ohio, did not see the bicyclist and pulled in front of him, where they collided.

Varwig, who is an executive with Citadel Group in Chicago, was seriously injured and flown to Blake Medical Center.

Lively was charged with Violation of Right of Way.
