SARASOTA - An Englewood man was critically injured Friday afternoon in Sarasota when he crashed his bicycle into the side of a moving vehicle.

It happened just after 9am at the intersection of Webber Street and McIntosh Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Anthony Schepp of Englewood was riding his bicycle westbound on the north side of Webber Street, and entered the intersection against a red light.

That's when he struck the left side of a trailer towed by a pickup truck headed southbound on McIntosh.  The truck was proceeding through the intersection on a green light.

Schepp's head hit a bucket loader on the trailer.  He was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported via helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment for head trauma.
