Bicyclist dies from injuries in Ellenton hit and run

**UPDATE** Florida Highway Patrol has indicated that Mimbs has died from his injures in the crash.


MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle they say hit and injured a bicyclist early Monday morning on U.S. 301 in Ellenton.

The crash happened around 12:30am in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 301 near 19th Avenue East, which is about a mile east of U.S. 41.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Daniel Mimbs of Bradenton was riding his bicycle eastbound on the right shoulder of U.S. 301 when a vehicle struck him from the rear.

Mimbs was taken to Blake Medical Center in Critical condition.

The vehicle let the scene of the crash.  Based on pieces of the vehicle left at the scene, investigators say it is possible a silver Ford with damage to the right front.
