ANNA MARIA, Fla. - After years of discussions, Anna Maria city commissioners have approved a new cell phone tower on the island.

According to the Anna Maria Islander, former Commissioner Gene Aubry says that the lack of service on the island is a safety issue in times of emergencies.

Commissioners approved a land lease last month to build the tower at city hall.

ABC 7's Bobeth Yates will have more on this story tonight on ABC 7 News at 5 & 6.
