SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - A large sea turtle was spotted on Siesta Key beach making its way to lay eggs.
Nathan Hunsdale was walking on Siesta Key beach last night and saw something coming out of the water.
A large sea turtle emerged and started making its way to the dunes. The sea turtle was left alone to nest.
Nesting season started in May and runs through October for the Suncoast.
Mote staff biologist Melissa Bernhard said, "Last year was a record year for us by two times as many nests we've ever had before. Four years before that there was another record by the same amount, so we're just seeing numbers going up and up."
