Beach renourishment begins on Anna Maria Island

MANATEE COUNTY - Dredging is getting under way Thursday on Anna Maria Island as part of a beach renourishment project.

Contractor "Great Lakes Dredge and Dock" is towing a dredge barge to an offshore "borrow area", on the north end of the island.

The work begins at Holmes Beach and continues south to Bradenton Beach.

The project will cost $13 million. There is no word on when the work will be completed.
