SARASOTA, Fla. -- Sarasota County sheriff's deputies are looking for an unknown suspect they say attempted to rob a Dollar General late Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says that a man entered the Dollar General location on the 4000 block of Bee Ridge Road shortly after 5 p.m., demanded the clerk open the register and told the clerk he had a gun. The clerk told the suspect to leave, and the suspect fled from the store, driving away in a newer model, light green sedan.

The suspect is described to be a white male in his mid-30s, approximately 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds with dark hair and a goatee. At the time of the attempted robbery, he was wearing a white t-shirt with a design of Mario Brothers characters on the front, dark gray shorts, black sneakers and sunglasses.

Detectives with the criminal investigation section are currently investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (941) 861-4900 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-8477, or online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com.
