SARASOTA - Two suspects were quickly arrested after fleeing a home invasion robbery in Newtown Monday morning in which police say the men held a gun to the head of a 10-year-old boy.
25-year-old Yancy Steen of Bradenton and 22-year-old Audley Clarkson of Ruskin are facing several charges after Sarasota Police say they entered a home in the 1800 block of 29th Street around 12:50am Monday and held a handgun to the heads of a mother and her 10-year-old son while they took turns searching the house.
After the men fled the scene, they were spotted about a block away by a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office canine unit, which had been assisting Sarasota Police on another call.
Steen was found hiding under a nearby car and didn't come out until the canine bit his arm and pulled him from under the vehicle.
Clarkson jumped a fence at a Gillespie Avenue home and attempted to hide in a home before surrendering to police.
Both men matched the descriptions given by the home invasion victims.
Steen was arrested for Home Invasion Robbery and Resisting Arrest without Violence. His bail on those charges has been set at over $750,000.
Clarkson was arrested for Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling with Battery and Battery. His bond was set at over $100,000. Clarkson was also charged with Violation of Probation, with no bond available on that charge.
