SARASOTA - Police say two Sarasota brothers have been arrested for stealing and scrapping a brass boat propeller.   One of the brothers has also been charged with stealing and selling kayaks.

24-year-old Andrew Berberich and 19-year-old Spencer Berberich were caught on camera on August 23rd stealing a 35-pound brass propeller from The Condominium on the Bay at 906 Boulevard of the Arts.  An hour later, surveillance shows them selling a brass propeller at a local recycling center.

Each charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and felony stealing in stolen property.  Andrew was also charged with felony defrauding regulated metals recycler.

On September 12th, a person who had purchased a kayak from Andrew Berberich in the past was contacted by Berberich again, asking if the man was interested in buying more kayaks.

That person was later notified that the kayaks Berberich was selling had been stolen from a Lee County business on September 11th.

Sarasota Police were notified and set up a sting, which led to the arrest of Berberich.  He has been charged in the City of Sarasota with felony dealing in stolen property and felony tampering with a witness. He’s facing other charges, including larceny grand theft, from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
