PORT CHARLOTTE, FL. - Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested one of two men involved in a reported stabbing and a hit and run Thursday at a gas station in Port Charlotte.
Arrested was 30-year-old Ronald Wayne Peyton. Detectives are looking for 24-year-old Richard Allen Foist.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 2:40 p.m. from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, Foist, stabbed a man. She said Foist left in a Ford F-150 driven by Peyton after the pickup hit one of her friends at the Marathon station at the corner of Port Charlotte Boulevard and U.S. 41. The victim told detectives he went to the gas station with three women, ages 18, 19 and 56, in a Mitsubishi. He said he saw Foist and Peyton in the white pickup. The victim said Foist told him he did not like him hanging out with his ex-girlfriend who was in the car. The victim went back to the car with the three women. Foist approached and started yelling; the victim said Foist then pulled out a flip open locking knife and lunged at him, cutting him on the chest.
The witnesses said they then saw the pickup drive around the gas pumps at a high rate of speed driven by Peyton and head toward them as they stood outside their car and was intentionally attempting to hit them. The 56 year old woman was struck by the pickup that drove off. The woman told detectives the wheel well of the pickup struck her, knocked her into a pole, and she fell to the ground. She was transported by EMS to Peace River Regional Medical Center and later released.
CCSO deputies, detectives, K9 and helicopter responded to the area. Peyton was located at 4:55 p.m. and stopped at U.S. 41 and Elkcam Boulevard; Foist was not in the pickup. Peyton declined to talk to detectives and was arrested on three felony counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. Peyton was taken to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond; this is his sixth booking and is a convicted felon. His Ford pickup was towed to the CCSO impound lot for forfeiture since his vehicle was used in the commission of a felony.
Detectives are still looking for Foist on a charge of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (knife). If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Foist, please call the CCSO at 941-639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
