SARASOTA - Police have made an arrest in an unsolved homicide from last month in which a man’s dead body was found in a Newtown field.

On March 14th, officers discovered the body of Jovonne Corn in a field behind the Boys & Girls Club in the 1800 block of 19th Street.

They later determined that Corn had been murdered.

Detectives now have a suspect in custody: 19-year-old Kevin Peterson. Tips from the community eventually led to his capture.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, a source told them that Peterson arrived at a friend's house that evening out of breath and with visible blood on him.  Peterson reportedly admitted killing Corn and stated "that's what happens when a robbery goes bad."

He later confessed the crime to a friend, revealing specific details about the location of the wounds and the route the two men took to the murder scene.

He is currently in the Sarasota County Jail and will be charged with Corn’s murder.

Although an arrest has been made in the case, the investigation is still active. Anyone with information about Jovonne Corn's murder is urged to contact Detective Dan Riley at (941) 954-7062.
