SARASOTA, Fla. -- For the 5th year in a row, the Sarasota and Manatee Seminole clubs put on their annual golf tournament before head football coach Jimbo Fisher came in for the dinner. ABC 7’s Don Brennan was there to talk to the big boosters, and sketchy golfers.

Monday was one of those days when the ‘Noles from throughout the ages come together to tell stories, bask in the glow of the national championship, and….play golf?

“With that type of shot you deserve to be laughed at. First tee of the day; just wanted a good drive, but overthought it and tried to put too much power into it," said Seminoles alum Jeremy Sargent.

One of the major players in the Sarasota Seminole Club is Ernie Garcia, who leaves nothing on the course and spares no expense for a good time. "We are with Florida State fans, of course, we are celebrating still and today coach is coming down with the trophy. We are super proud of the school."

Drew Weatherford, the former ‘Noles quarterback, was invited to play with Republican Representative Jim Boyd of Bradenton, and he might have gleened a little diplomacy from Representative Boyd when it came to current quarterback Jameis Winston's alleged crab leg theft from Publix last week. "I don't feel comfortable commenting about Jameis. He takes care of what he has to take care of on the field. He is a good guy, and it is an unfortunate situation, but I look forward to a great season."

All in all, it was a good time to help raise money for good causes, and to play on a beautiful course at Laurel Oak Golf & Country. "It's a great way for alumni and fans to get together to play golf. It is a great day today. Overall, it is a great way to support the University, support Seminole Athletics, and support alumni and fans alike," said Frank Maggio, president of the Sarasota Seminole Club.
