97 year old Florence Katz was named State of Florida Winner of the Salute To Seniors Award, given by Home Instead Senior Care. She is in the running for the national Title.
Florence volunteers twice a week at Jewish Family and Children Services.
She helps serve lunch to more than 120 seniors, some are home bound, some disabled, some have Alzheimer's,
Many are just lonely, and isolated from the community and this is their only social contact all week.
Florence was born in Ohio of Immigrant parents. When she graduated from college in 1936, she couldn't get a job with a symphony orchestra because she was a woman. So she became a public school music teacher. She married a doctor and worked in his office for 40 years.
Thy had 2 children, 5 grand children and 9 great grand children.
After retiring to Longboat Key she started a choir in the Temple she belonged to.
Florence will celebrate her 98th birthday on July 9th. We wish her many returns. You are indeed an Amazing Woman Florence Katz.
