SARASOTA. Fla. -- A long-time family restaurant in Sarasota has announced that it will soon close its doors after 40 years.

El Adobe on Tamiami Trail just south of Bee Ridge Road plans to close on May 10th. The popular Mexican restaurant has been open since 1974.

In a letter distributed to employees recently, its owner explained that she is planning to retire. “We will close on a high note and on a good note, and have plenty of time to celebrate the many years of goodwill and good food we have shared together before our doors close for good on 5/10.”

El Adobe is believed to be one of the oldest restaurant and bars in Sarasota.
