SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - A corridor in the Newtown community of Sarasota could soon see major changes.

A 13-acre lot at the intersection of U.S. 301 and MLK Way in north Sarasota is being considered for redevelopment by the city.

The city of Sarasota issued an invitation to negotiate and develop the land which was a former dumping ground. The property was cleaned up years ago but sat there vacant, until now.

Developer Urban America and New Direction Community Development Corporation responded to the city's request and presented preliminary plans to revitalize the lot which includes several mixed use buildings for business and homes.
