SARASOTA -A Sarasota man was arrested Wednesday for operating a grow house and on other charges after a short police chase.

Sarasota County Sheriff's detectives served a search warrant for a house in the 4500 block of Gallup Avenue Wednesday evening and found a grow operation in two rooms of the house. They seized 31 marijuana plants that weighed nearly 38 pounds.

According to the sheriff's office, the grow house operator, 22-year-old Yunesquis Torres drove into the neighborhood but fled the scene when he spotted the law enforcement activity. As the chase continued eastbound on Wilkinson Road and then northbound on Cattlemen Road, deputies tried to pull him over and at one point Torres swerved to try to hit a deputy’s vehicle. Torres was stopped and taken into custody on Cattlemen Road just south of Bee Ridge Road.

Torres has been charged with Trafficking in Cannabis, Cultivation of Cannabis and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is also charged with Reckless Fleeing to Elude and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
