SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Suncoast continues to see gas prices that are higher than both the state and national averages. Fortunately, AAA says the peak in prices could be in sight.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular rose to $3.70, that's up 3 cents from a week ago, and 20 cents higher from a year ago.

In Florida, prices dropped on average a couple cents from $3.76 to $3.74. Those numbers are still way above the average a year ago.

On the Suncoast, we're dealing with an average of $3.78 a gallon.

“Nationally, prices continue to rise, but the peak could be in sight," says AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins. “We have seen wholesale prices in the Gulf Coast tentatively pull back, which could result in slightly lower pump prices.”
