ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- What started with a traffic stop by an alert deputy wound up on Tuesday evening with the arrests of four Englewood area teens on multiple charges stemming from thefts from boats over the past few months.

Three of the men arrested are Lemon Bay High School football players.

Beginning in early May, the Sheriff’s Office received reports from residents from the Placida and barrier islands area of various equipment being stolen from their boats.  Among with rods and reels, one major item that was taken in most of the cases were Yeti brand coolers.

On Wednesday July 9, a deputy who responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the Rotonda area checked out a vehicle with two occupants.  While talking with the occupants, the deputy noted a Yeti cooler in the rear of the vehicle.  The deputy forwarded his information on the stop to the detectives working the thefts.

The detectives checked back at the home of the vehicle’s driver and spoke with one of the residents, who said there was a new Yeti cooler in the house.  The cooler was turned over to the detectives who placed it into evidence for processing.  One of the theft victims who had reported his Yeti cooler stolen from his boat on July 9 identified the one recovered by the detectives as his stolen cooler.

On Monday July 14, detectives spoke to 18-year-old Kyle Montalbano, at whose Placida house the cooler was located.  As a result of their investigation, they placed Montalbano under arrest on charges of Grand Theft of the cooler.  They were also able to obtain search warrants for other locations where additional stolen property might be located.

On Tuesday July 15, the detectives served the search warrants at the home of 18-year-old Robert Caspolich of Englewood, and a 17-year-old boy.  Both were located at the teen's house.  During the search of the residence, the detectives recovered two 45 quart Yeti coolers and one 155 quart Yeti cooler, along with rods and reels.

When detectives executed the search warrant at Caspolich’s residence, they located a yellow kayak that had been reported stolen.  Other property was recovered in other wooded locations.

Caspolich and the teen were ultimately arrested on multiple charges each of burglary and grand theft.  Detectives also arrested a 15-year-old on burglary and grand theft charges.  Caspolich was also charged with one count of armed burglary, dealing in stolen property and multiple counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to the Sun Herald the three football players, the two teens and Caspolich were not at football camp this week in preparation for this year's games.

Caspolich was being held at the Charlotte County Jail on a total $49,500 bond.  Montalbano was released on a $5,000 bond.  The 17-year-old was released to the Department of Juvenile Justice and the 15-year-okd was released to the custody of his parents.

Detectives are continuing their investigation in these and other cases.
