SARASOTA, Fla. – A celebration for the Jewish community took place at Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota Sunday morning for the holiday known as Purim. Dozens attended a service filled with songs and a costume parade. Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the victory of the biblical queen Esther over the wicked Haman, who sought the destruction of ancient Persian Jews. Rabbi Brenner Glickman from the Temple Emanu-El said “Its a lot about our identity and shaping sweet memories for our children and childhood that carry on throughout their lives. The kids love dressing up, shaking the grogers making the noise and booing the wicked Haman and cheering on Esther”. Following the service on Sunday was a carnival on the synagogue grounds which featured bounce houses, games and food galore.
