VENICE, FL (WWSB) - When students at Venice Middle School get to campus on the first day of classes, they will notice some major changes. The whole front office has been rebuilt as part of a major remodeling project this summer.
Rather than guests walking straight onto campus, they will now have to enter a holding room and be buzzed into the main school. This is all in an effort to keep students safe.
"It gives that extra layer of security to the students because where we're standing is a student occupied space. Not just anybody can just walk into the school at this point in time" said the project's manager Paul Pitcher.
Venice Middle Principal, Dr. Karin Schmidt is ready to have students walking her hallways again. This year, they stand to have even more than they expected.
"My Assistant Principal just told me a few minutes ago that we're already at the 700 mark. We really are excited that kids are coming to Venice Middle," she said.
