VENICE, FL (WWSB) - A 25-year-old Venice man is behind bars on multiple counts of drug trafficking, weapons charges and aggravated assault after he threatened to kill a man Saturday.
The Sarasota Sheriff's Office responded to the 500 block of Beverly Road in Venice at 8:10 p.m. for reports of an argument involving a handgun.
Once on scene, the victim told authorities that he and the suspect, Zachary Beyer-Radford, had been in a verbal argument after the victim told Radford to leave his property.
Deputies say Radford was in a relationship with the victim's granddaughter who lived at the residence.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Radford exited the vehicle and allegedly pointed a gun at the victim stating "I will end you," before returning to his vehicle and driving away.
Deputies quickly located the suspect's vehicle fleeing northbound on South Tamiami Trail and began pursuit.
The high-speed chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before Radford crashed and fled on foot. With the help of the Venice Police Department deputies located Radford hiding under a van.
After a search of Radford's vehicle, deputies say they recovered 50 grams of methamphetamine, 121 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun.
A prolific offender with nearly two dozen prior arrests, Radford is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Firearm and Ammo by a Convicted Felon.
He is being held on a $69,240 bond.
