LAKEWOOD RANCH - The Center for Building Hope in Lakewood Ranch builds hope for cancer patients and also their families.
It's the support of the community and fundraisers like the "Night of Hope" that help keep their services going.
A creative writing class is not something you would expect to see at a facility for cancer patients, but at the center for building hope it's one of many services provided. “We also have art therapy for kids, exercise classes, Thai Chi and yoga, nutritional classes, guided meditation and counseling," says Beth Knopik, Event Chair, Night of Hope.
With its serene setting, running fountains and lush landscaping CBH takes you away the cold hospital and helps people focus on hope; people like Katie Klauber Moulton. It was about a year ago when Kaite was told she had colon cancer. “And anybody who's received that message understands that you typically go into shock.”
Katie says she quickly learned how important it was to surround herself with support. “I didn't know at the time that the center for building hope had programs for caregivers and I know now how important that is to this community."
So now, it’s part of her mission to help spread the hope that CBH provides to patients and their families. Katie is now helping support the "Night of Hope Gala". “Without the funds that we raise at this event we are unable to provide all the services that we have here that many people have come to rely on," says Knopik.
They are services that are provided for free, and unlike most cancer centers, services that don't just focus on treating the body, but treating your mind and spirit as well. “That's what the Center for Building Hope can do for other people facing this. Because nobody one should have to go the journey alone,” says Moulton.
The Night of Hope fundraiser is Nov. 9th at the Ritz Carlton at 7pm. Dinner starts at 8pm and there will be plenty of music and dancing plus a chance drawing with amazing prizes. There are tickets still available. For more information click here.
