LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL (WWSB) - A former NBA referee, who lost his job in a betting scandal, has been arrested by Manatee County Sheriff deputies for Aggravated Assault.
According to authorities, Timothy Donaghy of Sarasota was having an argument with his 19-year-old daughter, in front of her friends home, over alleged drug use. The altercation drew the attention of the homeowner who went to check on the situation.
That's when deputies say Donaghy displayed a hammer to the man and threatened to hit him with it if he came any closer.
Previously, Donaghy served 13 months in prison for betting on NBA games that he officiated.
Donaghy was charged with Aggravated Assault and booked into the Manatee County jail. He is currently out on a $5,000 bond as he awaits a January court date.
