Saturday morning a Florida State Trooper was shot in the face as he tried to make a traffic stop in Putnam County. It happened shortly after midnight about 60 miles south of Jacksonville. Florida Highway Patrol says trooper Lawrence Litzell had just pulled over the Mercury Grand Prix when the two people in the car jumped out and ran away.
One of the Troopers at the scene describes what happened next. "A brief foot chase ensued. One of the subjects then turned around and shot, after displaying a firearm, shot our trooper in the face. Subsequently, the Trooper returned fire and killed one of the suspects. And we're still currently looking for the second that's still at large."
The State Trooper shot in the face was immediately taken to the Hospital. Litzell is reportedly in stable condition.
