SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - As expected the leader in predicting the number of storms for the hurricane season has lowered the number of named storms for the rest of the season.
This means we should see a below average season.
Due to an cooler than average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic and the prediction of El Nino during the peak months of hurricane season Colorado State forecaster Dr. Phillip Klotzbach has come out with a revised forecast for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Right now he is predicting 11 named storms, including Alberto, and 4 becoming hurricanes. The number of major storms has also come down to only 1 major hurricane this year! We had 6 major storms last year.
This is all good news but remember it only takes one hitting our coast to make it an active one.
