SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - The Florida Highway Patrol has arrested the driver they believe is responsible for a hit and run that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Venice man.
Troopers say the accident happened on U.S. 41 at the intersection of Short Drive in south Sarasota County around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.
According to FHP, Zachary O'Bry was attempting to cross U.S. 41when a Maroon, SUV stuck him in the intersection. After the collision, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived.
O'Bry was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
On Friday, troopers believe they arrested the man responsible for the Venice Teen's death.
Joshua McNamara, 32, of Venice, FL was taken into to custody and charged with Leaving the Scene with Death and Tampering with Evidence in connection with O'Bry's death.
In addition, troopers say they recovered a maroon 2004 Eddie Bauer Model Ford Explorer, parked and covered behind McNamara's residence.
